Meet Lt Colonel Rishi Rajalakshmi: The Most Fearless Masked Man of the Indian Army
Lt Colonel Rishi Rajalakshmi Nair is a legendary figure in the Indian Army known for his unmatched courage and incredible resilience. Hailing from Muthukulam village in Kerala, he swapped a promising engineering career to serve his country, embodying the true spirit of “Nation First.” Commissioned into the army and posted with the elite 42 Rashtriya Rifles, Rishi became a key figure in counter-terrorism operations in volatile Kashmir regions.
His defining moment came during a 2017 Pulwama encounter when he volunteered to plant an IED under heavy fire. Despite severe injuries that shattered his face, Rishi continued fighting until his team succeeded. That incident left him permanently disfigured, earning him the famous title “The Masked Man” as he now wears a specially designed mask.
Refusing to retire, Rishi bravely underwent over 28 surgeries and made a phoenix-like comeback to active duty. He currently leads troops at Pangode Military Camp in Kerala, inspiring soldiers and civilians alike. His heroism earned him the prestigious Sena Medal and widespread admiration, including praise from former Army Chief General Bipin Rawat.
Beyond battlefields, Lt Colonel Rishi has led disaster relief efforts, notably during the 2024 Wayanad landslides.
