On 21 July 2025, Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned as Vice-President due to health reasons.

๐ Notification: 7 August 2025
๐ Nominations Close: 21 August 2025
๐ณ Voting & Results: 9 September 2025
โ How the Vice-President is Elected:
โค Voted by all Members of Parliament (Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha) โ elected & nominated.
โค State Assemblies do not vote.
โค Candidate needs 20 proposers and 20 seconders (all MPs).
โค Voting by secret ballot using a ranking system.
๐ How It Differs from the Presidentโs Election:
โข President: Elected MPs + Elected MLAs of States + 2 UT (Delhi + puduchery) votes
โข Vice-President: Only MPs vote (nominated included).
โข Nomination Support: President = 50+50 | VP = 20+20.
โข Vacancy Rule: President must be elected within 6 months after the vacancy ; VP has no fixed deadline.

In 16 Vice-Presidential elections so far, 4 were uncontested โ including two wins by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan.
